Goodness and Mercy

Surely Goodness and Mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23:6

I've been thinking about our Good Shepherd and how much He cares for us. . . or maybe I should say I've been TRYING to comprehend how much He truly cares. . .and of course, my mind can not grasp His love.  I'm so thankful that He understands we have this treasure of salvation in "earthen vessels."   I'm sure you're familiar with Psalm 23 and the words of David--how he compares the LORD to being our Shepherd.   The chapter may have just a few verses, but they're so full of "goodies," it's something that should be thought about, mulled over, and digested slowly but surely over time in order to receive its fullest blessings.

Have you ever thought about God's goodness and Mercy?  How come they are mentioned here as "following" us all the days of our lives?   Well, I wonder could it be that God's goodness and mercy are like the Shepherd's two "herding dogs"---keeping the sheep in line?   If I've ever messed up and gotten out of line, the enemy tends to make me feel discouraged and even timid about going to the Lord for forgiveness.  But it's God's goodness and mercy that will get me back in line every time!  :)

How about you?  Are you feeling like you've stepped out of line and now the ole enemy is causing you to hesitate in going back to the Lord for forgiveness?   Look over your "shoulder"---do you see God's Goodness and Mercy?  They're on your trail!  Quickly get yourself back in line by going to His Word and repenting...He's sure to forgive and give mercy!

Thank the LORD, that no matter what season you're in--whether it be "spring" or "summer," and you're growing spiritually by leaps and bounds ~OR~ you're feeling like you're "falling" away and your heart is even growing cold----no matter what season you're in spiritually---The Goodness and Mercy of God remain ever faithful as your guide, to keep you on track!  Trust Him.  God is soooo good, isn't He?   Thank the LORD!  :)

Thank You, Father, for your goodness and mercy and for being our Great Shepherd Who will lead us in plain paths of righteousness for Your Name's sake.  Help us to follow You as we listen for Your tender voice.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.

  1. Hello, Dear Friend;
I agree that the 23 Psalm is to be meditated on, and ask His Holy Spirit to help us apply it to our life, our daily journey. Now you've got this verse on my mind, thank You :o)

It's awesome how you put the video together, and play so beautifully.

God bless you Tammi, and have a beautiful weekend,
    Michele :o)

  3. Hi there. I found you through another friend's blog. I love your post. The other day I got behind a vehicle that had two bumper stickers. One said, "Goodness" and one said "Mercy" and it made me smile. They were following her wherever she drove. Ha. I love how you compared them as in the herding dogs who keep us in line.

I am your newest follower. I am always grateful to meet another sister in Christ on blogland.

I hope you'll come and follow me as well.

    Bless you!
    Beth

  4. Hey Tammi,

He is good, isn't He! What a great reminder today! Just yesterday, it was as if God reminded me to thank Him and really appreciate His goodness to me.

Your blog is right where I am!

Thanks for your words of encouragement on my blog as well. That surrender is tough! But, I seem to be dealing with it over and over and over.

I pray that you are doing well.

    Blessings,
    Melanie

  7. Hello Tammi, My Sister in Christ!
His "goodness" and "mercy" are beautiful words to remember in good and bad times. The Lord wants us to turn to Him, for He loves us so much more than we can even love ourselves. As for falling from grace, we always will, no matter how hard we try--of course, it will be less often, as we grow in our love for Him, but, nevertheless, we will fall and stumble. Oh, but the power of His healing balm, as He attends our wounds! Although we may be ashamed, we must stay in His arms and realize we would never go to Him if we realized the extent of our sins-shame would be too tame of a word. So, like you advised, we must keep His goodness and mercy at the forefront of our minds and hearts. I loved this post, as it tugged at my heartstrings. Many blessings!

  8. ‘Goodness and Mercy’ reminds me of my brother Gerald. When he was young he pictured three girl sheep named “Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy” following the Shepherd :)

I love the video you produced… Beautiful images and soothing, calming music. What a talent!

Long ago when I was in 6th grade we had a teacher who required us to memorize Psalm 23, and I’ve never forgotten it, nor have I forgotten the wonderful woman who majored on the majors: scripture memorization. She planted seeds in us that would grow like Jack’s beanstalk and produce a great harvest someday.

Today I know the One who is the Great Shepherd, whose goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life… and I know I will dwell in His house forever!

    Richest blessings,
    ~ Debra

  9. I have been blessed by each of your comments, tremendously! I guess I could say that the LORD has just "blessed my socks off" through the words that He has given you to share! :)
"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." John 7:38
Thank you to each of you for bringing refreshment to my soul! :)

  10. Hi Tammi, I am new to your blog, what a blessing it is. I really enjoyed listening to your video, which accompanied the text selected in your post.

God bless for refreshing me today with this reminder. It is wonderful that we can take time out just to reflect and meditate on the goodness of God and to let His love saturate our souls.

  12. Hi Carole! I'm so glad you have joined in our journey with the Lord! I have enjoyed your blog as well! :) I don't get to post or comment or even "blog-hop" as often as I'd like to, but I just wanted you to know that I am so thankful that the LORD has allowed our paths to cross. It's by no accident, because my prayer has always been for Him to lead the hearts of those He would have to this little blog. So I consider each new friend an answer to prayer. :)

Hey there, Kay! Long time no see! Glad you got your "comment-ability" fixed! Been missin' ya! Welcome back, my friend! :) Love and hugs, right "back atcha!"
