Which Faith Do You Have?

But without faith it is impossible to please Him:  for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.  Hebrews 11: 6

As you may remember, I've been reading a few books by A. W. Tozer.  I must admit that I'm only within the first thirty and forty pages of each book, but that's okay.  Like the joy of sipping a warm cup of coffee while basking in the sunlight through a bay window, I'm digesting these words of wisdom from the Lord.   MMMmm good!

I'd like to ask you...which type of faith do you have?  I know, you're asking, "What in the world are you talking about, Tammi?"    Nominal faith is faith that accepts what it's been told, believing the text, even quoting the text by heart, just to prove it.*  Do you possess this kind of faith?  I think of it as "surface faith."  Reading the Scripture, maybe even accepting God's promises as true, but leaving it at "that" is not TRUE Faith in God's character.    It's just faith in the text of His Word.

Real faith is totally dependant upon the character of God.  "You will remember that the Scripture did not say, 'Abraham believed the text, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.'  It says, 'Abraham believed God.'"* (*quoted from A.W. Tozer's The Attributes of God, Vol. 1

Are you simply trusting in the text of Scripture to help get you through your struggles today?  Don't get me wrong, God's Word is living, powerful and sharper than a two-edged sword!  The Power and Validity of His Word will always remain, because HE will always remain!   I am simply trying to encourage you to take a leap of faith along with me.  Get to KNOW this One True, Powerful Living Almighty, Indescribable God.  For so long I've simply kept faith in His Word, waiting on Him to honor His Word...but somehow missing the depth of a relationship with This All Knowing One Who loves us.

Oh Holy Father, I so long to get to know You more and more, especially the closer we get to the return of Your Son, my Savior, Jesus.  Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, Who imparts unto us wisdom, Your wisdom-- which by the way You do not have to do.  You have every right to keep Your knowledge and wisdom, for You are Holy. But because You are LOVE, You unselfishly give..and give and keep on giving!  Not only do You give gifts, blessings, life, but You give us YOURSELF!   What an immense, unspeakable treasure we have been given.  Why do we not throw all caution to the wind and just RUN TO YOU, UNWRAP every layer through Your Scripture, page by page, and get closer to You?  Get to know You?   Help us!  We do not want to waste what time is left.  You are our Priceless Gift.  Help us to enjoy You, as You enjoy us and Your creation each time You paint a sunrise in the quiet dawn of each day.   We love You, Father...but oh how this love we have is none compared to Yours, nor is it ever adequate to express what You so rightly deserve.  Thank You Father, Thank You Son, Thank You Spirit, Three in One,  Holy Trinity in Unity.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
